Myanmar and Bangladesh have held talks on expanding energy cooperation, including plans for cross-border electricity trade through a regional power grid linking China, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.

Union Minister for Electric Power and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin met with Bangladesh's Ambassador to Myanmar, H.E. Dr. Md. Monwar Hossain, at the Ministry of Electric Power and Energy in Nay Pyi Daw on July 10.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation to address energy challenges arising from regional instability in the Bay of Bengal. They also explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral energy cooperation, noting that Myanmar and Bangladesh share both land and maritime boundaries, creating favorable conditions for energy trade.

The discussions covered the development of a bilateral cross-border transmission line (Regional Grid) to facilitate electricity trading between the two countries. The two sides also exchanged views on a proposed China-Myanmar-Bangladesh cross-border power transmission network aimed at promoting regional electricity trade.

The meeting was attended by the Union Minister, the Deputy Minister, the Permanent Secretary, and other senior officials from Myanmar's Ministry of Electric Power and Energy.
