The Ministry of Electric Power and Energy has announced that two passenger vehicles, including a YBS (65) bus, have been permanently banned from refueling with compressed natural gas (CNG) after being found involved in the illegal sale of vehicle fuel.
As CNG for vehicles is supplied by the government at subsidized prices, YBS buses operating in the Yangon Region have been instructed to run only on designated routes under the supervision of the Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTC) and to charge passengers only the approved fares to ensure public access to affordable transportation services.
Despite these directives, authorities received a complaint that a vehicle displaying the YBS (65) route logo, registration number 2I-2957, was not actually operating on the YBS route but was instead being used as a factory shuttle bus inside the Shwe Than Lwin Industrial Zone in South Dagon Township. The vehicle was also allegedly selling CNG illegally to another passenger vehicle, registration number 6F-3682.
Following an inspection, authorities confirmed the violations and took action against both vehicles by permanently suspending their eligibility for CNG refueling starting June 30, according to the Ministry of Electric Power and Energy.
