Chin State Restoration Efforts Progressing as Telecom Services Resume in Tedim, Expansion Underway in Tonzang and Falam

Deputy Minister for Construction U Myo Myint said that MEC and MPT telephone services are currently available in Tedim Township, Chin State, while efforts are underway to restore MPT telecommunications services in Tonzang and Falam townships.

He made the remarks on July 6 while attending a coordination meeting in Hakha, held at the Chin State Government Office, where officials reviewed the progress of rehabilitation and reconstruction activities across Chin State and presented updates to the state government.

Chin State Chief Minister Dr. Wong Hsun Thang expressed appreciation to the Deputy Minister and his team for personally visiting various locations across the state and conducting detailed on-the-ground assessments to support rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. He said he was encouraged to see rapid progress in regional development as a result of these initiatives and noted that the state's rehabilitation and reconstruction programs could achieve success within a short period if all stakeholders worked together.

Deputy Minister U Myo Myint reported that 110 departmental offices have been reopened in Tedim, Tonzang, and Falam, with 3,443 civil servants currently carrying out administrative duties. A total of 279 basic education schools have resumed operations, with 1,234 teachers providing education to 17,651 students.

He also said that public hospitals have resumed operations and that 278 doctors and healthcare personnel have provided treatment to 13,098 patients. Medical supplies and medicines have already been delivered to the area. Myanmar Economic Bank branches are operating normally, while municipal markets and private shops have also reopened and are conducting business as usual.

Regarding water supply, drinking water is being distributed from natural spring sources. In terms of electricity, Tedim is receiving rotational power supply through small-scale hydropower facilities and diesel generators. Efforts are also underway to provide solar-powered electricity systems for public hospitals, General Administration Department offices, and Myanmar Economic Bank branches in Tonzang and Falam.

On telecommunications, he stated that MEC and MPT telephone services are currently operational in Tedim Township. Work is ongoing to restore MPT services in Tonzang and Falam townships, while MEC telephone services have already become available in Falam.

Concerning transportation, the Deputy Minister noted that reopening Surbung Airport would significantly improve accessibility in Chin State, facilitate regional development, and enable faster transportation of materials required for rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.

During the meeting, the Vice Chairperson and Secretary of the Chin State Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Committee presented reports on the committee's formation, responsibilities, and ongoing activities. Committee members also provided updates on progress within their respective sectors.

The Chairperson and Secretary of the Reconstruction Committee, along with state-, district-, and township-level committee members, presented reports on implementation activities. The Director (Civil) of the Road Department also briefed attendees on the current conditions of the Kalay–Falam–Hakha Road and the Thaingning–Tedim Road, as well as planned improvement works.

Following the presentations, the Chief Minister and Deputy Minister coordinated responses to issues raised by ministers and departmental officials. They stated that the Chin State Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Committee would continue to coordinate with Union-level authorities and facilitate the delivery of assistance and supplies through Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Mandalay.

The meeting was attended by the Chin State Chief Minister, state ministers, the State Advocate General, the Secretary of the State Government, the commander of the Hakha-based military strategic command, members of the Chin State Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Committee, state-, district-, and township-level committee members, and other relevant departmental officials.
