The operating hours for the Myanmar-Korea Friendship Bridge (Dala) have been extended from the previously designated closing time of 10 p.m. to 12 midnight, according to Dr. Myo Thaw, Yangon Region Minister for Electricity, Energy, Industry and Transport.
The minister made the announcement while responding to a question raised by Daw Swe Swe Win, Hluttaw representative for Dala Township Constituency No. 1, during the sixth day of the Third Yangon Region Hluttaw's Second Regular Session held on June 22. The representative asked whether there were plans to allow traffic on the Yangon-Dala Korea Friendship Bridge until midnight.
During her inquiry, Daw Swe Swe Win noted that the current operating hours, from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., have created difficulties for residents of Dala Township, Twante Township, and Ayeyarwady Region, particularly in dealing with medical emergencies and other urgent social matters.
“In accordance with the recommendations of the relevant security organizations, local police forces have been working together to systematically ensure the security of the Yangon-Dala Korea Friendship Bridge. Therefore, permission can now be granted for vehicles to use the bridge until 12 midnight,” Dr. Myo Thaw said in his response through the Speaker of the Hluttaw.
The bridge had previously been open to vehicular traffic daily from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. before the latest extension.
