Myeik- The 2,100-foot-long Min Than–Maung Hlaw Bridge, which connects Myeik Township and Kyunsu Township in Tanintharyi Region, was officially inaugurated on June 12.
The opening ceremony was attended by Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Zaw Naing Oo, regional ministers, Coastal Region Military Command Commander Major General Kyaw Kyaw Han, regional government officials, district and township administrators, departmental personnel, local administrators, and residents.
The new bridge links Min Than Village in Myeik Township with Maung Hlaw Village in Kyunsu Township, providing a direct land connection across the Tanintharyi River.
“The bridge was completed some time ago, but local residents had continued relying on water transportation. Now that it has been officially opened, everyone will be able to use it,” a local resident said.
Known locally as the Min Than–Maung Hlaw Bridge, the structure spans the Tanintharyi River and serves as an important transportation link between Myeik and Kyunsu townships. Construction began in 2018 and was completed in 2025.
According to officials from the Department of Bridges' Construction Team (4), the project cost approximately 13.91 billion kyats and was funded through allocations from the Union Rural Roads Development Department and the Tanintharyi Region Rural Roads Development Department.
The reinforced concrete bridge measures 2,100 feet (640 meters) in length, with a 22-foot-wide roadway and a 26-foot navigation clearance for river traffic.
Authorities said the bridge will benefit residents of more than 30 villages in Myeik and Kyunsu townships by improving year-round access to education, healthcare, social services, and economic opportunities, while facilitating easier transportation and connectivity between communities.
