Authorities in Mon State have arrested officials after discovering that a company awarded a fuel import and distribution tender was illegally smuggling fuel, according to Minister for Electricity, Energy, Industry and Transport U Zeyar Oo.
The issue came to light on April 14 at the Puma Power International Port Terminal, where several staff resigned, raising concerns over a possible disruption in fuel supply. A government team was sent to prevent shortages and stabilize operations.
Investigations revealed that the terminal’s owner, U Nyi Nyi Htwe, is facing legal action for illegal fuel sales and is currently unable to manage operations. Staff shortages and uncertainty further strained the facility, though officials say distribution continues as normal.
Authorities confirmed that some fuel stations are also involved in black-market sales, and action is being taken against those responsible.
