The Road Transport Administration Department (RTAD) announced that the online booking system for vehicle renewals and driver’s license renewals, which was suspended, will resume in February.

The online booking system was suspended since October last year due to server maintenance and will resume in February.

Online booking for vehicle inspections, traffic rules and regulations awareness training, driver’s license renewals, etc. will resume from February 2. Starting from January 30, online booking can be made from the RTAD’s website with a minimum of one day and a maximum of 10 days in advance, the RTAD announced.

“Now, we can renew the car license without having to make an online booking. There are a lot of cars. We have been waiting since early in the morning and we can’t get in the office compound,” said a person waiting to renew their vehicle license in road transport administration department (Myinthar).

Currently, the RTAD has announced that vehicles that are renewed must have fire extinguishers in the vehicle and must be able to show them when renewing their licenses.

Due to the continuous occurrence of vehicle fires, the directive that a fire extinguisher must be included when renewing a vehicle license has led to good sales and rising prices, according to vehicle owners.

The directive of the Road Transport Administration Department also states that in order to prevent deaths and damage to vehicles and property due to fire, vehicles must be equipped with at least one dry chemical powder fire extinguisher according to the type of vehicle and that a notice will be issued to check whether the fire extinguisher is installed during vehicle inspections.

The amount of fire extinguishers to be carried by vehicle type is 1 kg for passenger cars and pickups, 2 kg for minibuses and light trucks, 3 kg for trucks and vans, two 3 kgs for buses.

Currently, vehicle fires are continuing to occur, and on January 22, a car caught fire in Hlegu Township on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway.
