Honorary titles and medals previously awarded to Thura U Aung Ko, U Myint Naing, four retired generals, and prominent business figures U Chit Khaing, U Thein Wai, and U Khin Shwe have been officially revoked, according to an announcement published in the Myanmar Government Gazette dated December 5.

The business figures whose honorary titles have been withdrawn are Eden Group founder U Chit Khaing, Zaykabar Group chairman U Khin Shwe, and former chairman of Yoma Group, U Thein Wai.

U Chit Khaing had been awarded the Sithu title, the Wunna Kyawhtin title, and the Excellent Performance Medal (Second Class), all of which have now been revoked. U Khin Shwe’s Wunna Kyawhtin title and U Thein Wai’s Thiri Pyanchi title have also been withdrawn.

Former minister Thura U Aung Ko has been stripped of both his Thura title and Wunna Kyawhtin title, while U Myint Naing has had his Wunna Kyawhtin title and Excellent Performance Medal (Second Class) revoked.

The four retired generals whose honorary titles have been withdrawn are General Zaw Lwin Oo, General Win Lwin, General Hla Myint Soe, and General Aung Lin Htun, according to the Gazette.

General Zaw Lwin Oo has had his Zeya Kyawhtin title and Myanmar Military Service Medal revoked. Generals Win Lwin, Hla Myint Soe, and Aung Lin Htun have each had their Zeya Kyawhtin titles withdrawn.

The revocation of these honorary titles and medals was carried out in accordance with Article 67 of the Regulations Governing Honorary Titles and Medals, the Government Gazette stated.

Article 67 outlines the circumstances under which honorary titles and medals conferred by the State may be revoked. These include acts of treason against the State; conviction by a court for offenses related to moral misconduct; dismissal, removal, or termination from office following disciplinary action; the discovery of false or inaccurate information in the original recommendations submitted for the award; or the emergence of other sufficient reasons warranting revocation.

Article 68 further stipulates that once an honorary title or medal is revoked, the individual concerned must cease using the title, wearing the insignia or replicas thereof, enjoying any associated privileges, and receiving any honoraria or allowances granted in connection with the award.
