A factory in Johor state, Malaysia has been raided and 356 foreign workers, including 299 from Myanmar, arrested, according to reports from Malaysia.

On December 16, the Malaysian Immigration Department raided a factory in Johor state, Malaysia, and arrested 356 foreign workers working illegally.

The 356 foreigners arrested included 246 men and 53 women from Myanmar, three Pakistanis, 26 Bangladeshis, one Nepali, 22 Indians, one Filipino, one Nepali and three Indonesian women.

The factory raid found that the employer had failed to comply with the Malaysian government’s regulations on hiring foreign workers and had violated certain immigration laws. The workers were also working without valid travel documents and work permits, Malaysian authorities said.

In addition, in the arrests, not only foreign workers but also two Malaysians were arrested. The arrested individuals will be prosecuted under the Malaysian Immigration Act and are currently being held at the Immigration Department in Johor.
