Vice Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC), Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services, Commander-in-Chief (Army), Vice-Senior General Soe Win met with officers, soldiers and family members of the Myitkyina military station at the Bala Min Htin Hall of the Northern Command Headquarters on the morning of December 16.
Speaking at the meeting, SSPC Vice Chairman Vice-Senior General Soe Win said that the election will be held in three phases. The first phase of the election will be held in 102 townships on December 28, the second phase will be held in 100 townships on January 11, 2026, and the third phase will be held in 72 townships two weeks later. The Tatmadaw will conduct a free and fair multiparty democratic general election, and all relevant officials from all sectors must make concerted efforts to ensure that all eligible voters can vote in order to hold the election successfully, and it is intended to hold by-elections in the remaining 56 townships as much as possible.
Efforts must be made to prevent voter fraud like the 2020 election. The Tatmadaw temporarily took over the responsibilities of the state due to voter frauds. The upcoming election will be led by the Tatmadaw and will use the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVMs), a digital voting system that cannot be used for voter fraud. 34 countries have used this system in elections. Since those who have reached the age of 18 and have a national registration card are eligible to vote, relevant officials have been conducting door-to-door verification of the necessary information to ensure that all eligible voters can vote. The relevant officials must ensure that those on the electoral roll do not lose their right to vote, said Vice-Senior General Soe Win.
In addition, since regional stability is important for the people to vote peacefully, security activities need to be carried out jointly by the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force, local militia groups, public security and counter-terrorism groups, volunteers, village elders and local people. Those who have the right to vote are living in a country that is moving towards multiparty democracy and have an individual responsibility to vote in the election. Young people are also those who will carry out state duties in accordance with the democratic system at the same time, so they must participate and vote in the free and fair multiparty democratic general election to be held now. In voting, the representative who will vote must be someone who can work together with the Tatmadaw, who will observe and follow the three main national causes, who can serve the good of their local communities, who has good morals, who are healthy and strong and can lead the organization and those who have security, administration, and economic views. After the election, the Hluttaw will be convened and the responsibilities of the state will be transferred to the newly formed government, he said.
Similarly, the SSPC Vice Chairman also informed the officers, other ranks, and family members of the Myitkyina military station about the disciplinary issues that must be followed by the military.
After that, the SSPC Vice Chairman coordinated with the officials and provided food supplies and honorariums to the officers, other ranks, and family members, which were received by the commander and his wife and the officials.
