Almost 200 inmates serving sentences under Penal Code Section 505(a) were released from Insein Prison on the morning of November 27, according to several newly freed individuals.
The release took place shortly after 10 am., with prison authorities reportedly freeing a total of 192 detainees. A former inmate who had served more than a year of a three-year sentence said most of those released were men.
The freed prisoners were transported out of the prison compound by minibuses and dropped off near Insein Park.
Another recently released woman said 78 female inmates were among those freed, with the number of men exceeding 100. She had served ten months of a three-year sentence and noted that she had not faced significant hardship during her detention.
