The Myawaddy Foundation has been running a free clinic in Ward No. 6, Myawaddy, near the Thai-Myanmar border, where hundreds of patients receive treatment every Sunday. The clinic, established in early 2025, mainly serves poor families, displaced persons, and war-injured patients.
Foundation Secretary (1) Ko Naing explained that the project started as mobile medical care for conflict victims but was later expanded into a permanent clinic. The operation is funded by donations, contributions from the foundation’s executive committee, and profits from the foundation’s oxygen plant. All treatment and medicines are provided free of charge.
Dr. Win Myint, a senior physician displaced from Kawkareik, leads the medical team. While surgeries are not yet available, the foundation plans to expand services in the future.
In addition, the foundation’s oxygen plant—originally set up during the COVID-19 crisis—has donated more than 6,500 cylinders (40 liters each) of free oxygen over the past four years to hospitals, charities, and low-income patients. Although one of the new machines is currently malfunctioning, oxygen production and donations continue.
For the public, oxygen cylinders are sold at 25,000 kyats each, while businesses pay 55,000 kyats. Needy patients still receive oxygen for free through the foundation.
