The weapons and ammunition being transported from Phyu Township to Ottwin Township, Bago Region, were seized,according to the reports.

According to local informants and related intelligence, a man named Than Lwin, a member of the People’s Defense Force (PDF), disguised himself as a Buddhist monk and attempted to transport weapons and ammunition from Kyauk Taing Village in Phyu Township, passing through Zayarthi Village, with the intention of delivering them near Kywepwe Town in Ottwin Township or Milepost No. 128/2 along the Yangon–Mandalay Expressway.

Based on this information, on the morning of September 14, security forces conducted inspections near Nyaung Pintha Village in Phyu Township. They intercepted a black Nissan X-Trail SUV without a license plate, bearing registration number RLG/1412, driven by PDF member Than Lwin disguised as a monk. The vehicle was found to be concealing nine assorted firearms and related equipment.

The disguised PDF member was made to disrobe in accordance with Vinaya rules and was interrogated. Following the investigation, security forces continued operations to apprehend those who were supposed to collect the weapons. Near Milepost No. 127/6 of the Yangon–Mandalay Expressway, about 100 meters west of the road, they encountered PDF members dressed in camouflage uniforms. The PDFs retreated after the confrontation.

During the incident, Than Lwin attempted to escape. Despite being ordered to stop, he refused and security forces fired warning shots. He sustained injuries and later died, according to the National Defense and Security Council Information Team.
