The main road linking Ingapu and Nyaungkyo has been damaged by the Ngawen River erosion, causing difficulties in transportation and the flow of goods, according to sources.

The situation of riverbank erosion gradually worsened and in August, the main road was damaged.

"The bank of Ngawun River has been gradually collapsing since the past few years due to erosion. Before the rains this year, it was about 150 feet away from the road. Then it continued to collapse and this month it took away the road. Although the departments have made plans and reports regarding the collapsing, the erosion has increased, and now it is affecting on the road. The current road condition is such that even motorcycles can't pass. Cars can't go at all. This road is the only road that people rely on. Now that it's not passable, both transportation and goods flow are difficult. The road on the Mezali hill, where cars are currently moving, has two bridges, but they are wooden bridges, so it is not suitable for trucks to pass. We have to transport goods at another road in stages. As for the waterway, there is a direct connection between Nyaungakyo nd Hinthada, but it is only convenient during high tide. It is not convenient during low tide," said an administrative official.

"The road that collapsed is not an ordinary rural road. It is a road of the Road Department. It is the main road that connects our vast area with Ingapu. Due to the current situation, transportation is difficult, so we are using the Mezali hill road. That road is a village-to-village road, a gravel road. In some places, there is only a dirt road. Only cars can go there. Trucks cannot go there. On the other side, cars stop for a while in Ma Gyi Su Village, then take a boat, and then take a car to the top of Jampyin Village. The situation is so difficult," said a local village elder.

The local people want the relevant authorities to prioritize short-term and long-term measures to restore the difficult transportation and flow of goods, which has been affected by the erosion of the main communication road.
