During a meeting held on July 12 at the Taunggyi (Aye Tharyar) Industrial Zone Committee Office in Shan State, Deputy Minister for Industry U Yin Maung Nyunt stated that Myanmar currently has 28 established industrial zones, five industrial wards, and two zones under development. These zones host around 8,035 small, medium, and large enterprises, employing approximately 556,009 workers.
He noted that the Industrial Zone Law was enacted in 2020, and its by-laws were issued in 2024 to ensure systematic development of both existing and new zones. These zones play a crucial role in boosting exports and reducing import dependency through increased local production.
The event included discussions on the legal framework governing industrial zones and future implementation plans. Officials also visited exhibitions showcasing MSME products. Shan State’s Minister for Economic Affairs shared updates on local industrial development efforts.
Attendees included officials from the Ministry of Industry, Shan State Government, and business representatives.
