3.9 magnitude earthquake strikes near Homalin town

According to a statement released by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, a minor earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 on the Richter scale occurred near Homalin town in the morning of July 7.

The announcement stated that at around 11:40 a.m. on July 7, the Tamu seismic station detected the earthquake. The epicenter was located about 52 miles northeast of the station, inside Myanmar (approximately six miles southwest of Homalin town), at a latitude of 24.80 degrees north and a longitude of 94.84 degrees east, with a depth of 60 kilometers. The earthquake, centered in this area, registered a magnitude of 3.9 on the Richter scale and was classified as weak.
