The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that they are firmly determined to conduct a free and fair election.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, made the remarks while delivering the opening speech at the Peace Forum 2025, which will be held for three days starting from June 25 in Nay Pyi Taw.

“We will hold the election within four weeks, from the third week of December to the second week of January 2026. The date is being determined. Since that time is a very busy period, we are thinking about the date and the method of holding it. We are thinking about the best way to do it,” he said.

Since the SAC took office, it has taken responsibility for the election results being rigged, and now the problems of the last election have been resolved, he said.

"Since we have taken responsibility for the country in accordance with the 2008 Constitution, we will definitely implement the multi-party democracy that the people want. Since taking office, we have included it in No. 5 of the five-point roadmap. Therefore, our government will hold the election as originally intended," he said.

In addition, it is best if the general election can be held nationwide, but it will be seen that in the years 2010, 2015 and 2020, multi-party democratic general elections were not held 100 percent, and it will be seen that it was carried out despite difficulties during the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League era.

"We are now making all necessary preparations to hold the election as widely as possible. The main thing is that the election must be free and fair. In the current situation, we have found that the 2008 Constitution and the election laws of each parliament can be held in accordance with the law. The Constitution also stipulates that the National Defense and Security Council can be used to hold the election. Therefore, as we originally intended, we will hold the election in accordance with the provisions of the law and transfer state power to the government elected by the people," he said.

Similarly, the SAC Chairman said that everyone must work together to successfully hold a free and fair election, and that taking up arms and demanding our own desires is a deviation from democracy.

"At a time when the parliament has been formed and we can walk the path of democracy that we want, taking up arms and demanding our own desires, embracing the armed path and creating a system that prioritizes only our own desires, is a deviation from democracy. We must also be aware that this is not the right path. We will discuss and decide on our desires in each parliament," said the SAC chairman.

The Peace Forum 2025, a three-day discussion on “Towards a new nation of peace and prosperity through the integration of peace, elections and development”, will be held in Nay Pyi Taw from June 25 to 27.
