In Tanintharyi Region, Dawei District, from May 10 to June 17, seven children have died due to dengue fever, according to local news sources.
Starting in early May, the onset of the rainy season, dengue fever cases surged in Dawei District. Three children died from the disease in May alone, a source close to the regional health department reported.
The source added, “On June 17, an eight-year-old child passed away, bringing the total number of child deaths in June to four. Overall, seven children have died so far.”
The victims were children aged between five and ten years old. It is believed that delays in reaching hospitals contributed to the fatalities. The source urged parents to promptly take sick children to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Due to the high prevalence of dengue fever in Dawei District, regional, district, and township health departments are conducting awareness campaigns, spraying insecticides, and implementing preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.
