Over 5.8 million students attend schools nationwide as 2025-2026 academic year begins

The Ministry of Education announced that more than 5.8 million students across Myanmar attended school on the opening day of the 2025-2026 academic year.

Basic education schools, including monastic education schools, officially commenced classes on June 1 in Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory, as well as in regions and states nationwide.

According to the ministry, a total of 5,822,954 students enrolled in government basic education schools, monastic schools, and private institutions across the country.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, the government is providing free textbooks, exercise books, and stationery to primary, middle, and high school students during enrollment. Additionally, KG and primary school students are receiving free school uniforms.
