A powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28 caused the collapse of the Nay Pyi Taw Fire Department headquarters and its five-story fire tower, resulting in the tragic death of a child and injuries to eight firefighters, according to the Myanmar Fire Service Department.
The collapse occurred at 12:52 PM when the earthquake hit and bringing down the upper structure of the building endangering those inside. In response to the severe damage and safety concerns, authorities have announced that the remaining structure will be demolished on April 5 to remove hazardous sections.
On April 4, structural assessment efforts were carried out at the site by a joint team of engineers and firefighters from the Myanmar Fire Service and the Bangladesh Search and Rescue Team. The team conducted a detailed evaluation of the building’s condition to plan for safe demolition and ensure the safety of surrounding areas.
The Myanmar Fire Service continues to coordinate recovery efforts while extending condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
