Due to declining rice prices and difficulties in sales, export companies will purchase approximately 1.5 million baskets of Emahta paddy at a cost of around 140 billion kyats, according to Announcement No. (02/2025) issued by the Myanmar Rice Federation on March 22, 2025.
The announcement, dated March 22, 2025, follows coordination meetings and discussions held by the Myanmar Rice Federation. It addresses the current situation where international and domestic demand for rice has decreased, causing concerns among farmers cultivating paddy due to falling prices and challenges in selling their produce.
To address these issues, the Myanmar Rice Federation has coordinated with export companies and member rice mills to purchase 1.5 million baskets of paddy and 400,000 bags of Emahta rice during April and May 2025. Farmers facing difficulties in selling their rice/paddy are encouraged to contact the Myanmar Rice Federation office at 01-2301128-29 or 01-218266-68 for assistance.
In preparation for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, plans are underway to export 300,000 metric tons of parboiled rice. The meeting discussed upgrading 30 boiled rice mills, providing necessary support, and implementing short- and long-term measures to boost parboiled rice production.
The Federation also held discussions with 11 solar energy companies with which it has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). The meeting focused on installing 41.5 megawatts of solar energy systems in major rice mills engaged in exports. Discussions included various solar installation systems, purchasing electricity generated through investments by solar companies, and ensuring irrigation water for agricultural crops.
