Myanmar Railways, under the Ministry of Transport and Communications, has been working to ensure smooth and convenient train travel by improving major rail routes such as Yangon-Mandalay, Yangon-Pyay, Yangon-Mawlamyine, and Yangon's circular and suburban lines. Additionally, other routes like Pathein-Hinthada-Kyankhin, Pyinmana-Taungdwingyi, Yangon-Pyay-Bagan, Myitkyina-Mogaung, Letpadan-Tharawaw and Thazi-Shwenyaung have also been prioritized for passenger train services. The train carried 130 passengers, including private business owners and representatives from companies attending the 2025 Myanmar Food and Beverage Industry Development Forum (MSME) in Nay Pyi Taw. The train arrived at Yangon Station at 1:50 PM, with the journey, including stops at intermediate stations, taking 5 hours and 50 minutes.
The upgraded Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw rail route will begin operating with the DEMU train sets on February 28. The train will consist of six carriages, including four first-class and two upper-class carriages, accommodating 312 passengers. Additionally, the Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay route will operate with six carriages, including four standard and two upper-class carriages, accommodating 330 passengers. Myanmar Railways will announce the updated train schedules and ticket prices soon.
Passengers will be able to transfer between the DEMU and air-conditioned trains at Nay Pyi Taw Station.
The Yangon-Mandalay route will make stops at Bago, Phyu, Taungoo, Nay Pyi Taw, and Thazi stations. Myanmar Railways is committed to enhancing passenger comfort by introducing modern train sets, upgrading rail infrastructure, and improving station facilities to ensure a pleasant travel experience for all passengers.
