A shipment of 3,000 tons of imported cement has arrived at Shwepyithar Mottama Port in Yangon and is now being distributed to the market. This comes as the country enters the dry season, a period marked by accelerated construction activities nationwide. To meet the growing domestic demand for cement and bolster local production, the government has permitted the import of cement from abroad.

The vessel carrying the 3,000 tons of cement, imported through the Kawthaung border trade checkpoint, arrived at Shwepyithar Mottama Port on the afternoon of February 21. Distribution to the market began the following morning, February 22.

The import of cement has been authorized to support ongoing construction projects across the country. In addition to this shipment, more vessels carrying cement are expected to arrive weekly to ensure a steady supply. This move aims to stabilize the market and strengthen domestic production capacity during the peak construction season.
