A Chinese national has been arrested for allegedly trying to persuade two young women from Dala Township to marry him, sources said.
A Chinese national visited two young women’s home in Dala Township, Yangon Region, and persuaded them to marry him. The video was posted on social media, drawing criticism from viewers.
A case has been opened at the Dala Township Police Station against those involved in the incident.
According to the police’s criminal record, a case was opened at Dala Police Station on February 6 under Section 35/44 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law against Ma Thida Aung, Aung Zaw Oo aka Hamidula, Mr Luo Fei a Chinese national, and another unidentified Chinese national, who were arrested for allegedly giving gifts of money to the two young women from Kamakasit Ward, Dala Township, and filming a video to persuade them to marry, uploading it on social media, and then extorting the money they received, based on a complaint filed by the police.
In this case, Mr Luo Fei arrived at the Yangon Airport Immigration Counter on the evening of February 6 to depart from Yangon International Airport for Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand. The Yangon Airport Anti-Trafficking Police prevented him from leaving the country and transferred him to the No.6 Anti-Trafficking Unit (Yangon) for further investigation.
