A man from Pan Waing Village in Mongmaw Township, located in the Wa region, has been sentenced to death by the United Wa State Army (UWSA) after killing his father with a knife while under the influence of drugs, according to reports.
The execution was made public by the UWSA and broadcasted on January 23 via Wa State Television (WSTV), as referenced by the Wa Youth Voice Network.
The offender, identified as a 30-year-old man named Chain Nyiron, was reported to have committed the crime in a state of mental instability induced by drug use, leading to the fatal attack on his father, according to the Wa Youth Voice Network.
In a similar case, on August 3, 2024, in Hopan Town, also under UWSA control, a robbery at a general store resulted in the killing of an 8-year-old child. Two months later, on October 30, the UWSA sentenced the perpetrator to death.
The UWSA has a history of publicly sentencing criminals within their controlled areas. Following such rulings, they often parade the offenders in front of the public in their controlled towns to showcase the enforcement of justice and deter criminal activity.
