NSPNC and working group of political parties discuss key issues on Jan 23-24

The National Solidarity and Peace-Making Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the working group of political parties held a two-day meeting to discuss the holding of elections, increasing the reintegration of PDFs into the legal fold, and increasing the number of conscripts under the People’s Military Service Law.

The two-day meeting between the NSPNC and the working group of the political parties was held at the National Unity and Peacemaking Center in Nay Pyi Taw on January 23 and 24.

The meeting was attended by the NSPNC Chairman and Union Minister for Border Affairs, Lt. Gen. Tun Tun Naung, and members of the coordination committee, and the working group leader of the political parties, People Party Chairman U Ko Ko Gyi, and representatives of the working group.

On the first day of the meeting, the NSPNC Chairman discussed the status of discussions with political parties on the provisions of the 2008 Constitution  that should be amended, the status of necessary actions taken on the recommendations of political parties on the holding of elections, issues related to spreading the peace process among the people and achieving stability and peace, the status of the implementation of the peace process based on the NCA and the processes to be continued, the current political developments, and the successful holding of a free and fair multi-party democratic general election.

Then, the leader of the working group of the political parties, U Ko Ko Gyi, delivered a speech, and the Secretary of the NSPNC Lt. Gen. Min Naing discussed the purpose of the meeting and the agenda, the current political situation, the importance of the role of political parties, and the conditions for continued cooperation between the NSPNC and political parties.

The working group of the political parties continued to propose issues to be discussed, and Lt. Gen. Win Bo Shein (retd), a NSPNC member, discussed the opinions gathered so far on the points that should be amended from the 2008 Constitution.

Then, the two sides discussed and negotiated additional proposals to be amended from the 2008 Constitution and the first day of the discussion was adjourned.

The second day of the meeting between the NSPNC and the working group of the political parties continued on January 24, and those who attended the meeting continued to discuss and negotiate the proposals of both sides that had not been completed in the first day of the discussion, and the political parties explained the issue of the formation of the working group of the political parties.

In the general discussion section, political party representatives discussed issues related to the 2025 elections, issues of recommending and discussing measures that should be taken to achieve national stability and peace, issues of meeting the needs of the people legally, issues of overcoming the current political situation and the government and the people together, suggestions for increasing the number of PDFs who have been brought back into the legal fold due to political infighting, and suggestions for increasing the number of conscripts under the People’s Military Service Law were discussed, and the attendees exchanged their views.

Then, the two-day talks and negotiations were concluded by signing the final agreements reached, and the proposals and positions that needed to be discussed further, and the positions reached by the two sides were recorded as a summary of opinions.

Then, the leader of the working group of the political parties, U Ko Ko Gyi and the NSPNC Chairman Lt. Gen. Tun Tun Naung delivered concluding remarks.
