Mandalay - A fire broke out at around 10:00 am in Hmantan Ward, Amarapura Township, Mandalay Region, reportedly caused by a short circuit in an LED bulb connected to a battery. The incident was confirmed by the Myanmar Fire Services Department.

Initial investigations revealed that the fire began in a front room of a two-story residential building measuring 18 by 25 feet, constructed with galvanized roofing, wooden walls, and bamboo flooring. The short circuit occurred when a two-wire connection to a battery-powered LED bulb malfunctioned, igniting paper below and rapidly spreading flames.

Firefighting efforts involved five fire engines and seven water tankers from multiple stations, including Amarapura Township, Myitnge, and other surrounding areas. A total of 80 personnel, comprising 30 full-time firefighters and 50 auxiliary staff, managed to control the fire by 10:26 AM and extinguished it completely by 10:29 AM.

The fire damaged five residential buildings, including upper floors of four two-story homes and one room measuring 10 by 8 feet. Additionally, two motorcycles and various household items were destroyed.

As a result, six households, comprising 24 individuals (13 males and 11 females), have been relocated to nearby relatives’ homes.

Authorities have opened a case against a 46-year-old male in connection with the incident at Amarapura Township Police Station.  Further investigations are ongoing.
