The Myanmar Embassy in Seoul announced on November 9 that some Myanmar nationals residing in South Korea had been found extending the validity of their passports using counterfeit stamps, leading to the revocation of their passports and their inclusion on a blacklist.

The Embassy emphasized that it had already issued a warning on October 15, advising Myanmar nationals in South Korea to strictly adhere to regulations regarding the use of their passports. It stated that violations of these regulations could result in legal action by both Myanmar and South Korean authorities. Those found guilty of such violations would have their passports revoked and their names added to a blacklist.

Despite this warning, investigations revealed that some Myanmar nationals were still engaging in the unauthorized extension of their passports’ validity using forged stamps. Consequently, the Embassy revoked these passports and blacklisted the individuals involved.

The Embassy also noted that it is working with relevant ministries and local authorities in South Korea to effectively address and prevent such fraudulent activities. This includes ensuring that individuals using forged stamps to extend their passport validity are subject to appropriate legal action under South Korean law.
