Two men died, and one suspect was apprehended following a mine explosion in Dagon Myothit Township (South), Yangon Region, as alleged perpetrators attempted to detonate a homemade device, according to sources.
After receiving a tip, security forces arrived near No.30 Basic Education Primary School on Padamyar Street in No.62 Ward of South Dagon Myothit Township around 6:30 a.m. on October 27, where two men, Phoe La Pyae from No.78 Ward and Paing Min Htet from No.94 Ward, were found injured by a mine blast.The men were taken to No.1 Military Hospital (1000-bed) for treatment.
The injured men testified that they, along with Aung Naing Tun (alias Kayin), had traveled in a Toyota Corolla taxi driven by Nga Soe, intending to detonate an explosive at the Ward No.94 Administration Office around 4:30 a.m. on October 27.
Upon approaching the target location, the mine accidentally detonated inside the taxi, wounding Phoe La Pyae and Paing Min Htet, while Aung Naing Tun fled the scene.
Following the explosion, the driver, Nga Soe, transported the injured men and later dropped them near the No.30 Basic Education Primary School.
Based on the suspects' statements, security forces conducted a search and later apprehended Nga Soe with the taxi near the intersection of Pyidaungsu Road and Maygawaddy Street in South Dagon Myothit Township.
While undergoing medical treatment, both Phoe La Pyae and Paing Min Htet succumbed to their injuries. Legal action is underway against Nga Soe in connection with the incident.
