Starting October 2nd, Myanma Railways (MR) upgraded its 15th Up/16th Down trains with modern Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) sets purchased from Spain.
MR continues to operate passenger trains on various lines, providing more convenient and efficient travel options for the public.
As part of the Yangon Circular Railway Line upgrade project, a special ceremony was held at Yangon Central Railway Station on October 1st to officially launch the No. 15 up-train (Yangon-Bago) and No. 16 down-train (Bago-Yangon).
Attendees included Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Myaing, and other key officials from the region and Myanmar Railways, as well as passengers.
In his opening speech, the Yangon Region Chief Minister emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing the transportation sector to improve the socio-economic status of the people.
He noted that the introduction of the new DEMU trains marks a significant advancement in comfort and modernity for passengers traveling the Yangon-Bago route.
He called for the public’s cooperation in maintaining the upgraded railway infrastructure and trains, which were developed with significant government investment.
Following the speech, officials cut the ribbon at platform No. 1 to inaugurate the new No. 15 up DEMU train. This new service replaces the temporarily suspended No. 13 up/14 down RBE trains, and operates under the existing timetable.
The DEMU train can accommodate 832 passengers, both seated and non-seated. Ticket prices are 2,500 kyats for a full journey and 1,300 kyats for half the journey.
