On June 20, the Ministry of Information reported the arrest of a suspect involved in a fatal shooting and robbery targeting a goldsmith in Aungmyay Tharzan Township, Mandalay Region.
The suspect, identified as Kan Paing, alias Ko Phyo or Pyae Phyo Aung, was apprehended at his residence at 6:15 pm on June 18. Authorities recovered stolen gold and jewelry during the arrest.
The incident occurred on June 13 when U Win Aung, a goldsmith from Thanlyatmhmaw West Ward, Maha Aungmyay Township, Mandalay Region, was returning home on his motorcycle around 5:20 pm. Two individuals riding a black CZI motorcycle approached him from behind. U Win Aung was shot and fatally wounded, leading to his death. The suspects fled with gold items belonging to U Win Aung.
The case was filed under Section 54 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the No. (4) Police Station. The swift apprehension of Kan Paing within five days of the crime was credited to investigative efforts, which also resulted in the recovery of stolen items. Kan Paing confessed to the crime, detailing that he had been contacted by Ko Maung, another individual under investigation, to commit the robbery and murder.
The Ministry's announcement underscored ongoing efforts to address such criminal acts swiftly and bring perpetrators to justice.
