Chauk and Magway, located in Myanmar's Magway Region, have been listed among the 15 hottest cities in the world, with extreme heat anticipated before the onset of the monsoon, according to some meteorologists.
Eldorado Weather, which tracks daily temperature and rainfall, reported that Chauk and Magway returned to the list of the world's hottest cities on May 15. As of 1:30 pm on that day, Chauk ranked 8th with a temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius, while Magway ranked 11th with 44.1 degrees Celsius.
Throughout almost the entire month of April, cities in Myanmar's central region, such as Chauk, Magway, and Minbu, consistently ranked among the world's hottest cities. Early May rains briefly excluded them from the list, but Chauk reappeared on May 14, followed by Magway on May 15.
Meteorologist U Win Naing cautioned about the intense heat before the monsoon season on his social network page. He stated, "It is still uncertain whether a storm will come. There are still 10 days left for the monsoon to arrive. At the moment, we need to pay attention to weather conditions as temperatures are expected to rise again by next Sunday (until May 19). In some townships of the central regions such as Mandalay, Sagaing, and Magway, temperatures will rise to 44 degrees Celsius. With minimal rainfall, the humidity will be high, pushing temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius."
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology also predicted a slight increase in daytime temperatures in some regions of Myanmar over the next two days.
