A vehicle carrying Myanmar workers overturned in Charoen Township, Thailand on the morning of December 8, and five people were injured, sources said.

Chairman of the Joint Action Committee for Burmese People's Affairs (JACBA) U Moe Gyo said that a Thai national driving a vehicle from Phuket Province in southern Thailand to Chiang Rai Province in northern Thailand overturned in Charoen Township.

"The accident occurred when a car carrying Myanmar workers crashed within the border of Charoen Township, Thailand, and five Myanmar workers were injured. The car was driven by a Thai national and was driving from Phuket Province in southern Thailand to Mae Sai Township in Chiang Rai Province in northern Thailand. The accident occurred in Charoen Township," he said.

U Moe Gyo continued, "Similarly on December 7, 15 Myanmar workers were injured in a car accident. Therefore, in the whole year of 2023, there were 10 traffic accidents, killing 20 Myanmar workers and injuring 105. The Thai Human Rights Foundation and the Myanmar Embassy in Thailand need to act as necessary in order for the victims of such deaths and injuries to obtain their rights under Thai law. The Myanmar community should also be encouraged to help from all sides."

He added that in 2023, there were more than 10 accidents involving vehicles used by Myanmar workers, killing 20 Myanmar workers and injuring 105.
