A fire broke out at around 1 am on November 7 in the middle of Sheinkhong Village, which is covered by ice in northern Myanmar in Khaunglanphu Township, Putao District, Kachin State, according to locals.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but as it is a border village that stores the goods of the entire area, there have been losses, said U Shwe Lay, a former member of parliament who lost his two houses in the fire.

"It's already getting cold in the mountain region. It was over 12 o'clock at night, so no one could put it out. The fire burnt down the warehouses where the spices were stored. More than 60 out of 200 houses were destroyed. There are many houses which stored goods in the village. About three hundred people have run out of food. The journey is rough, so I don't know how to help. We are gathering people to help them," U Shwe Lay said.

Sheinkhong Village is located in China-Myanmar border and is a kind of station village where local products are gathered. After the outbreak of Covid-19, the borders of China were strictly closed and it was reopened recently. The area that was destroyed by the fire is the main exchange point for local products and products from China, so the area is more affected. It will be a more convenient way to travel if the donors go to China to enter our village to provide help, U Shwe Lay added.

Sheinkhong Village is located three days away from Khaunglanphu town, and it is said that there is a Rawan militia base and a high school.
