Although a curfew as well as martial law has been imposed in Ye Township, the town still sees robbery cases that usually target women, according to local sources.

A local from Ye Township said that the locals frequently have been robbed of their hand phones, wallets, motorbikes and jewelries. If some were robbed of their motorbikes, they got injuries after overturning their motorbikes. The robbery cases mainly targeted the women.

On September 19, two unknown men on their motorbike approached a motorbike riding by a woman who will have to pay a loan to the microfinance company situated in front of Hsan Myat Tun Guest House in Ye Township and then the unknown two men kicked her motorbike and robbed her money. Due to the attack, the women got the injuries and she was sent to the Ye District People Hospital by the social welfare organization. 

Similarly, two men on the motorbike robbed the wallet from the woman near Nay Myo Yarzar Clinic on Shwe Sandaw Road (west) on August 30. And then on the afternoon of August 1, two youths on the motorbike robbed a wallet of a woman who withdrew the money from the Wave Money Shop on Yan Gyi Aung road in Ye Township. So, the woman was robbed of her hand phone and over Ks 400,000, according to the locals.

The locals suggested to the women that they shouldn’t drive the motorbike by holding the wallet and talking the hand phone. Moreover, the women shouldn’t wear the jewelries.

The locals also said that the robbery cases frequently occurred in not only downtown but also the nearby villages in Ye Township.

As there had been frequent robbery cases in Lamaing town of Ye Township, the locals formed the Night Guard Force by themselves.
