A diplomatic mission led by Union Minister at the Union Government Office 2 U Ko Ko Hlaing, who is also Vice-Chair 1 of the Rakhine State Stability, Peace and Development Work Coordination Committee visited the Cyclone Mocha-hit Rakhine State on September 1.
During the visit, the Union minister said the visit to Mocha-hit Rakhine State intends to allow them to show the real situation of the rehabilitation processes and rebuilding procedures and the practical procedural framework for repatriation of people who fled Rakhine State. He also explained the implementation works to rehabilitate Rakhine State to be better than the original situation, and other repatriation processes.
Dr Yin Yin Nwe, a member of the advisory board of the State Administration Council and officials briefed all on the report regarding the response measures in Mocha-hit regions and progress in rehabilitation processes.
Next, the respective officials of relevant ministries and the secretary of the Rakhine State government clarified the repatriation processes, ongoing rehabilitation processes and arrangements for safe return of the people who fled Rakhine State.
The diplomats then appreciated the efforts of Myanmar for its rehabilitation processes in the Mocha-hit regions and systematic plans for repatriation and relocation of refugees.
They then proceeded to storm-hit St Mark’s Cathedral in Sittway to inspect the damages and complete repair works, U Ye Kyaw Thu monastery, Sittway Hospital, Sittway University and Sittway International Port .
They also paid a visit to U Ottama Park where food and commodities are sold at reasonable prices to the cyclone victims. They also visited the social harmony and social integration training and basic sewing training at vocational training school and encouraged to trainees and other women from DP c training camps.
They then inspected the completed rehabilitation works at Sittway University, and other places in Thaechaung and Dapaing villages. Then, they met with the displaced persons at Thetkaepyin IDP camp and observed the healthcare services at Thetkaepyin station hospital.
The diplomats had dinner hosted by the Rakhine State chief minister at the Sittway Hotel in the evening.
