A committee on the development of importation, installation and investment of electric vehicles and associated businesses instructed companies selling electric vehicles (EVs) not to sell the EVs at a profit of more than 20 percent and not to make pre-order sale.

Some companies are found to be making pre-order sales at showrooms and through social networks.

The committee held coordination meetings with EV importing companies in April and June and has already notified them that they are not to make more than 20 per cent profit on CIF price, not to advertise and sell online and not to make pre-order sales without vehicles arriving at the port.

If the companies violated those policies, they will get their export and import licence revoked and face legal actions under the Consumer Protection Law, the committee warned.

The Department of Consumer Affairs has announced that if people are not satisfied with the purchase and use of EVs and chargers, they can file a complaint.

The Department of Consumer Affairs, in accordance with the objectives of the Consumer Protection Law, ensures full consumer rights for consumers, safety, satisfaction, full insurance coverage and compensation for damages.

A total of 48 Consumer Information and Complaint Center (CICC) offices have been opened in Nay Pyi Taw, states and regions for consumers to easily contact and make inquiries and make complaints. Complaints for damages are also being accepted.

According to the Ministry of Construction, plans are being made to allow EV vehicles to run on the urban road network systems in the cities of Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay, as well as on major road networks throughout the country.

To reduce the consumption of natural fossil fuels in Myanmar, under the guidance of the National-level Leading Committee on Development of Electric Vehicles and Related Business and related EV organizations, a total of 19 charging stations: four in Nay Pyi Taw, five each in Yangon, Mandalay and on the Yangon-Mandalay highway, were implemented for the use of electric cars, as a pilot project.

To make electric vehicles easy and convenient for people to travel and reduce costs, starting from April 1, 2023, the road usage fee for EVs will be waived.
