An up train (No.89) en route from Yangon to Mawlamyine derailed near Malaukchaung Village between Kyaikkatha and Bo Phayagyi railway stations at about 2.30pm on April 8, detaching some of its coaches, said a railway officer.

The train derailed at mile post No.91/21-23), and four of its railway coaches were detached.

An official from Mawlamyine Railway Station said the derailment was caused after the train came to a dead stop as the driver saw the railway tracks that had become curved due to intense heat.

“The passengers were transported in other coaches, and the train continued its journey to Mawlamyine at about 4.30pm, he added.

No one was hurt, and Yangon-Mawlamyine trains are in regular operation today.
