UEC Chairman discusses preparations to hold free and fair election with Chinese ambassador

NAYPYITAW-----Chairman of Union Election Commission (UEC) Thein Soe discussed about preparations to hold free and fair election with Chinese ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai.

The UEC chairman met with Chinese delegation led by the Chinese ambassador to Myanmar at UEC’s office in Nay Pyi Taw on March 7th.

At the meeting, the Chinese ambassador asked about matters related to preparations to hold the election in accordance with the SAC Five-Point Road Map, the status of political parties and the holding of a free and fair election in peace and stability.

The UEC chairman also explained that the commission is preparing to hold the election, the promulgation of the Political Parties Registration Law and Rules, the verification process of the right to establishing political parties and applications for registration, the use of electronic voting machines in the upcoming elections, the implementation of the proportional  representation (PR) system, the holding of fair and just elections that are accepted by voters and contesting political parties, and the voting process for eligible voters under the law.

The meeting was attended by members of the Union Election Commission and officials from the commission office.
