Villager shot dead at home in Yephyu Township

A man from Pugawzwon Village in Yephyu Township, Dawei District, Taninthayi Region, was shot dead at his home at about 8pm on December 12, according to local sources.

The victim’s name was U Nay Lin Oo (aka) Noon Hmat. He was shot and killed at home by four gunmen who arrived on two motorbikes, a local villager said.  

“We heard three gunshots. He died at the scene of two bullet wounds to the head and one to the chest,” he said.

The victim was from Kin Village, Yephyu Township and got married with a woman from Pugawzwon Village, where they settled down. They have two children.

On December 5 also, the 68-year-old administrator of Chaungphyagyi Village in Launglon Towship was killed by unknown gunmen at home.

According to a research group, Southern Monitor, 317 civilians had been killed and 115 others injured in gun attacks in Taninthayi Region since February 2021 to November this year. 

There were 89 deaths in Launglon Township, 58 in Yephyu Township, 42 in Thayetchaung Township, 36 in Dawei Township, 32 in Pulaw Township, 21 each in Taninthayi and Myeik townships, 11 in Kawthoung Township, four in Bokpyin Township and one in Kyunsu Township.
