Myanmar citizens among those granted 45 days of visa-free stay in Thailand

Like other foreign travellers, Myanmar citizens have been allowed a visa-free stay for up to 45 days in Thailand, according to Thai-based tour agencies.

Thailand announced the extension of a visa-free stay period for foreigners to 45 days instead of 30 days effective from October this year, also allowing Myanmar citizens to enjoy such a privilege.

According to bilateral agreement, any Myanmar passport holder is also among those who are granted 45 days of visa-free stay in Thailand.

While the Thai government granted up to 30 days of visa-free stay to foreigners entering the country, Myanmar citizens had the right to enjoy only 14 days, but could stay for 60 days with tourist visas.

Despite the latest announcement for 45-day free visas, Myanmar citizens were entitled to the opportunity only in the last week of October.

“Actually, Myanmar citizens were not granted 45-day visa-free stays in Thailand as announced. Most of them had just 14 days. They were then allowed in mid-October,” said a woman operating a tour agency in Thailand.
