An unidentified man robbed Thit Hsan Yin Gold Shop near the central market in Phayathonesu town, Kyainseikkyi Township, Kayin State, by firing a gun at about 5.15pm on November 13, according to local sources.

Gold, jewelries and cash were taken away and the son of the shop owner was wounded, local residents said. 

“That gold shop is located near the central market by roadside in Phayathonesu town. Around a few minutes past five in the evening, a man arrived on a red motorbike. He first pretended to buy gold. Then, he fired a gun and asked the owner to give gold ware. The owner and salesclerks fled in panic. The man broke the glass counter with his gun and took gold and jewelries,” said a witness living nearby. 

He continued that before leaving the shop, the robber fired a gun at the owner’s son as he came out of the house, and left by motorbike. The son of the owner had a bullet wound in the left back, he said. 

He added that the robber could not be identified and arrested.

Local sources say that Phayathonesu, a border town between Myanmar and Thailand, has frequently seen robberies, muggings, shootings and explosions.
