Those who support the National Unity Government (NUG), the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the People’s Defence Force (PDF) on the social media like Facebook could face many years of prison sentence, said Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the State Administration Council (SAC).

He warned during a press conference of the information team of the SAC held in Nay Pyi Taw on September 20.

“I will give some examples in relation to cases resulting from the use of Facebook. Those who gave likes to or share the posts, images and videos of the terrorist organizations such as NUG, CRPH and PDF or their supporters are tantamount to breaching Section 124 (b) of the Penal Code. They could be imprisoned for at least three years or up to 10 years. They can also be fined,” Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun warned.

He said there were also calls for the civil servants to rejoin the CDM (civil disobedience movement) and that can harm the disciplinary enforcement of the civil service.

Writing or sharing posts harming such disciplinary enforcement and responsibilities of civil servants breaches Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code, the SAC spokesman added. 

“For breaking 505 (a), violators can face up to seven years of prison sentence,” he said.

He also warned that those who provide cash or support to the State-declared terrorist organizations will face heavy penalty.
