Names and national registration card numbers of those who have registered for their mobile SIM cards will be scrutinized with immigration data, and they will be permanently closed if such data are found incorrect, the Posts and Telecommunications Department has announced.

In its statement, the department said that according to the scrutiny, some people are using their SIM cards that were registered without correct personal data. Therefore, names and national registration card numbers in the existing SIM card registrations will be checked with the e-ID database from the Ministry of Immigration and Population. For those SIM cards registered through incorrect identities, they will be closed for good, the department warned.

The statement also warns that the telecom operators and SIM card sellers shall face procedural actions unless they follow the prescribed instructions in selling SIM cards or making or correcting the SIM card registrations. Meanwhile, SIM card users are urged to fill in their correct personal data in making registrations online, or at mobile phone shops.
