Intensive armed conflicts displace nearly 96,000 civilians in Rakhine, Chin: OCHA Myanmar

YANGON------Nearly 96,000 civilians already had fled their homes due to intensive armed conflicts in Rakhine and Chin States. In doing so, there are over 84,000 displaced peoples, according to the announcement of United Nations Office for the Coordination Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA Myanmar) on August 7th.

The announcement also stated that due to the intense fighting between military [Tatmadaw] and Arkan Army (AA) took place in Rakhine State and Paletwa Township of Chin State during last week, there had been increased numbers of internal displaced persons(IDPs) and humanitarian needs continues to raise.

The OCHA Myanmar reported that the fighting were intensifying in Kyauktaw-Sami-Paletwa road section and near Kalatan River in Southern Part of Paletwa Township, Chin State since the beginning of August. Therefore, both sides reinforced their military presence and carried out heavy weapon attacks.

Similarly, ongoing fighting occurred in Maungdaw, Yathetaung and Buthitaung Townships in northern part of Rakhine State and it continued to Taunggup Township in southern Rakhine State. So, the security measures already tightened in the whole Rakhine State, according to OCHA Myanmar.

Moreover, transports of medicines and goods already have been banned in northern Rakhine State. The restrictions of transports of medicines and goods caused the obstacle on the rights of humanitarian aids supports, says OCHA Myanmar. There are over 84,000 IDPs in Rakhine and Chin State.
