A monk from Byama Wihara Monastery on Hingyo mountain in Hanthawady Ward, Thanphyuzayet Township, Mon State, by hanging himself on the evening of September 4, according to Paing Shinme social aid organization.

The monk reported to be 26 years of age was from Anan Kwin village. As the monastery has no ordination hall, he was still a novice and had not ordained as a monk. But there was already a plan to make him ordained in one or two weeks. Before that, he passed away,” said an official from the organization based in Thanphyuzayet.  

He said the body had to be carried on foot for about an hour to reach the ambulance because the suicide case happened in the rubber plantation. Then, the body was sent to the township people’s hospital, he added.  

Four people had committed suicide in Mon State from August 22 to 28 this year, according to local sources.
