An unknown armed group fired small and heavy weapons into the office of Paung Township General Administration Department on Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway in Mon State at about 6pm on September 3, according to local sources.
“Small and heavy weapons were fired into the Paung Township GAD office at about 6 pm on September 3 from the Sutaung Pyae Pagoda hill located behind the office. We also learnt that police returned fire as the Paung Township Police Station is close to the GAD office,” said a local resident in Paung.
He continued to say that two explosions were heard: one shell fell in the GAD office compound and another in the Maternal and Child Welfare Association office compound. But it was not known whether bombs were dropped by drone or heavy weapons were fired from afar, he added.
Regarding the incident, the scale of damage has yet to be assessed and security forces arrived for checks and security, local sources said.
On the morning of September 1 also, a MSDF (Mon State Defence Force) group opened fire on Khawzar Police Station in southern Ye Township, Mon State. The police returned fire, according to local sources.
