Section 144 has only been extended, and the curfew hours are only set at 12 am to 4 am, said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson of the State Administration Council (SAC).
Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun responded to The Daily Eleven's inquiry about whether there are any additional curfews issued in addition to the previously issued orders due to the news that the night curfew orders have been increased in the townships of Yangon Region.
"No announcement is made. It is just rumors. Commonly, there are those issued under Section 144. Section 144 is valid for two months. After two months of validity, it has to be issued again. These are common occurrences," said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.
Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun continued that the curfew hours have been set as before and there has been no change.
"There is no announcement. Curfew hours do not change. As before, it is the usual curfew hours," said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.
During the uprising in Rakhine State during the last government, there are cases where Section 144 has been issued in Buthidaung and Maungdaw areas, said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.
Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said, “In the past, Section 144 was issued in Buthidaung and Maungdaw areas because it was necessary. The section 144 needs to be extended every two months. I just want to say that there is no increase in curfew hours or anything”.
Reports of the extension of night curfew in Yangon's townships have been circulating on social networking sites, and there have been reports that the night time has been changed from 8 pm to 4 am.
