Over 280 million kyats’ worth of caffeine seized in Tachilek

According to the information released by the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control, 288 million kyats’ worth of caffeine, a controlled chemical item, was seized on June 3 on the Tachilek-Monghsat Road, Tachilek Township, eastern Shan State.

Members of the Drug Control Police Squad, acting on a tip-off, was carrying inspection task on Tachilek- Monghsat Road at 7.45 pm on June3, when it intercepted a Dump Truck with Lin Lin Aung at the wheel on its way to Tachilek from Monghsat, and found 3,600 kilos of caffeine with a street value of 288 million kyats and a mobile phone,  as disclosed by CCDAC Myanmar.

Lin Lin Aung who had been transporting the controlled item of Caffeine has been booked under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law,  and efforts were being made to get other links .

Tachilek is in the world renowned Golden Triangle region and known to be a border town for drugs, gambling and all kind of illegal businesses. Local residents said that more should be done by groups other than those concerned to uplift the character of the youth.
