Local sources say that there were powerful explosions in Myitkyina, Kachin State, on the early morning and night of January 29.

The MPT (Myanmar Post and Telecommunications) auto exchange box in front of Asia Energy gas station in Myaymyint ward, region 12, was blasted at 3 am on January 29. The exchange box was damaged.

There was no other damage, but the gas station had to close.

One person who went to the see the scene said, "I think the location of the explosion was mistaken.  The box connects the internet and phone lines. The box will have to be replaced and cables reconnected".

Likewise there was another explosion near the township Myanmar Railway Office at about 8pm. The explosion could be heard not only in the entire Myitkyina town but also from Waingmaw town.

People from the neighborhood said that those living around there were very much alarmed and that shops closed in haste.

A person living near the site of the explosion said that the explosion was very loud, and that those going out in the evening were few. He said it could be due to the cold weather.

There were also explosions in the compound of the parliament building on November 30 and on December 6 with the use of handmade mines. The signboard was slightly damaged, local people reported.
